The Grosse Ile Educational Foundation, Inc. is proud to announce support from the DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund to aid the Grosse Ile Township Schools exploration of teaching Foreign Language at the elementary level. A committee has been studying this concept and came to the GIEF for help with funding research materials. Katie Chambers, a board member of the GIEF, saw an opportunity for collaboration of efforts and applied for a grant from the DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund. A check for $1,500.00 was presented the Foundation for support of the school district. Research shows that learning foreign language during elementary years has its benefits, but there are concerns about which teaching method to adopt. The ultimate goal of an elementary level foreign language program is to strengthen the existing secondary program, which will provide our future workforce with a communication skill applicable to a global marketplace, a foreign language they can read, write, and understand. Staff and parents of Grosse Ile Schools want to explore these issues as much as possible prior to making changes to the curriculum.
