Foundation Support

About the Foundation
The Grosse Ile Educational Foundation, Inc. is a volunteer, non-profit community organization committed to life long educational experiences for the students and families of Grosse Ile. We do this by financially supporting creative and exemplary educational opportunities provided through Grosse Ile Township Schools and the Community.

The mission of the Planned Giving Committee of the Foundation, is to guide donors to information and resources showing financial options that benefit both the donors and Grosse Ile Educational Foundation. This will assist you in achieving your tax, estate planning and charitable giving objectives. For further information, please complete and return the response form.

Endowments Enhance Education

In an endowment, the principal of each contribution is never spent. It is always invested so that the income and appreciation of the investment is available for the purpose of the endowment...forever! It is a very special way to support specific educational priorities, and to remember individuals in a lasting and meaningful way.

The two GIEF endowments are:
Ed Mayne Endowment for Teacher Education
Kristin Connors Endowment for Foreign Language and International Studies

One example is the Kristin A. Connors Endowment Fund for Foreign Languages & International Studies which was created within the GIEF by Joe & Jan Connors in memory of their late daughter, Kristin, a Grosse Ile High School alumnus.

The purpose of this endowment is to support Grosse Ile Township Schools in the areas of Foreign Language & International Studies. In addition, at the discretion of the Superintendent of Schools, up to 50% of the income & appreciation in any given year can be used to offset the costs of educational opportunities abroad for a student(s) of Grosse Ile Township Schools with a financial need.

In this age of global competition, when many European & Asian students can speak several languages, the Connors think it is important to help Grosse Ile students speak & understand one or more foreign languages creditably. They also think the endowment is a great way to remember Kristin!

There are currently two other endowments within the GIEF that you can also contribute to, the General Endowment that supports the mission of the GIEF of supporting lifelong educational experiences for the students and families of Grosse Ile Township, and the E.F. Mayne Teacher/Student Discretionary Fund that supports the Schools in achieving the best teacher practices and securing the best possible teachers.
